Note from Dr Hodgson – My Impending retirement
Note to patients from Dr Lesley Hodgson – My impending retirement
I started at St Georges many years ago on 1/3/94 when the surgery was much smaller, across the road from where we are sited now. I worked out of a tiny room which resembled a small broom cupboard! Squeezed into that tiny space was a desk, bed, 2 chairs and a small sink; the room also had the misfortune of a radiator that wouldn’t switch off! Apologies to the patients who laid on the bed during a rain-storm – their heads got wet through the leaky glass roof!
I had the joy of working alongside architects and planners as we built the new St Georges Medical Centre in the car park across the road. I was proud to be in the team to open the new building on 9/6/97, and it has been great to be a part of its expansion over the years since.
One of our goals has always been to develop the General Practice to have more services, from our allied professionals, based in one place for our patients. Over the years we have had physiotherapists, Wirral Vision ophthalmology, Community Diabetes, Minor Operations, Joint Injections, drug and alcohol services, Dermatology, Podiatry, Citizens Advice, Counselling Services, Health Visitors, District Nurses, and many others work out of St Georges….. and it is great to see that many of these still do.
As I am now fast approaching 60 …. Yes it is a shock to me too …. And the last 2 years have been tough and challenging, as it has been for us all, I have decided to take a step back and look ahead. In the immediate future, I will still be working in the Community Diabetes and Long Covid Clinics and going forward will be working as a GP on a ad hoc basis only.
The Partners at St Georges Medical Centre will continue to move the Surgery forward along with our wonderful GPs, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Phlebotomist and Reception, Medicines and Administration teams, working alongside other allied professionals. Together, they will continue to develop St George’s in this post-covid era, ensuring the best for our Patients, staff, and the practice.
Thank you to all patients I have seen over the years, who have made my experiences rich and memorable. Thank you to the Staff and all Partners and GPs – I won’t forget this tremendous experience as I move into the next stage of my personal and professional life.
